Technology Time line

This is my created time line show the progression of technology, pinpointing the main jumps in technology which have had a big effect. I wanted to first show the main historical facts such as the first light bulb etc, and then start to progress and pinpoint about the increase in websites and computer designs. I gave everything a date and also said who created most things.





Difference between Desktop websites and Mobile websites.

Facebook

This is the desktop version of the Facebook screen its obviously a lot wider and can hold a lot more information in correct format and structure. With Facebook you have a sidebar of people to chat to on the right side and on the other side a list of groups, events etc listed down the left side. Also listed on the right side is a series of adverts and also a suggested friend request. The layout is very helpful and easy to use and gives many choices to do so you're not bored. It gives you access to any profile including your own plus groups,events etc.

This is what Facebook looks like now on an android phone, it shows you all the main icons of Facebook on one page to give you an easier guidance. The phone receives notification sounds. also on the bottom friends random selected photos are shown. The format is easy to use and there isn't any less features as if it was on the computer, the only flaw is that you cant see everything on the screen at once which comes frustrating for some because you have to go back each time to the main menu. 

This is the news feed page on a android phone, as you can see it's making the page seem like a lot of text because there isn't enough space for photos. It gives you the option of have the most recent or the mos popular and you still have the ability to like and comment on posts except it does take much longer than if it was on the computer. The text also seems squished to the size instead of being re formatted.

Overall I think that Facebook on the computer is better because the desktop news feed is a great way to keep people interested and so they will, if they leave come back and check again quickly. Also on the computer news feed, you can see thumbnails of a picture so the audience doesn't get bored of reading a lot of text unlike the phone version which you have to keep clicking the photo you want to see which can take a long duration of loading. What people enjoy about the phone version though is that on these newer more advanced phones they can takes high quality photos and upload them there and then without any hassle of transferring over to the computer which is also a big selling point for mobiles nowadays with other apps such as instagram which can also be posted on Facebook.

YouTube

This is the main page of YouTube on a computer if signed into YouTube the page will look like this and display mainly your subscriptions' videos and activity that your subscriptions are uploading, commenting and liking. The layout uses three main colours red, black and white and uses them well by never uses red as a background colour because it can be hard for some viewers to read text in red. On this main page you have on the right side a selection of the subscribers and other things in a list such as trending videos which shows you what is most popular at the moment on youtube. On the right side you have a list with large thumbnails of recommend videos for yourself personally depending on what you have previously watched.

This what it looks on a video page it show the main video near enough in the middle of the page with adjustable screen sizes and also screen resolution settings for better quality video. On the right side there is always one ad payed by a company to let youtube use there site for advertisement which is becoming big. Also there is related videos to the video you are watching to keep you entertained, which can be very useful and interesting to look at some videos you wouldn't usually look at. Underneath there is a list of comments from other users who have watched the video and said something about it and also liked or disliked the video, that is what that green bar is underneath green mean like and red is dislike. You also have a drop down menu which shows more information about the video and also what music is playing.

This is the main page of Youtube on an android phone, there is a lot taken out from the PC version to make room. So here on the main page there is only a list of videos which can either be of popular videos of a selected category. The android version concentrates more on black backgrounds which is a very noticeable difference. Up on the top left there is two icons one is a search drop down menu to find a video you wish and the other is a feature only for the android version which allows you to film and directly upload the video to youtube with no problems, which is becoming big and popular.









This is what the video player looks like on an android. It's a lot smaller than the PC version and has the information commets and related videos in drop down menu just underneath the video, making it a lot more cramped and not as interesting to look at, but still holds the quality of a video and you make it full screen by turning the android horizontal. This is a really cool feature to have on a android but can become frustrating because the android becomes glitch and stuck on a screen size.











Overall I think that the PC version is presented much better and has more features, but the android isn't terrible it has almost all the latest features and layout is very user friendly. I like the fullscreen feature on the android and the film directly to youtube from the android is a brilliant idea. On the PC though I enjoy the look of it and the sucriber list.

Twitter

This is the home page of twitter, it uses simple designs and two colums for your profile and the other for the "tweets" of who you are following. There main colours are a light blue, white and hint of black, this gives the site a nice relaxing look and also a individual look than other companies. The "tweet" colum uses a simple list format, with a thumbnail and name of the person "tweeting". You can also click on someones "tweet" and coment, look at other comments and their main feature to "re tweet". This is a good way for people to see hat you found funy or intreresting.

This is what Twitter looks like on an android, as you can see the two colums are gone replaced with one big one with all of the "tweets" you have followed. The colour way is just a simple black and white with some gradients. You can use your finger to scroll down and look and the "tweets" and if you want to compose a new one, you can choose the icon at the top next to the other icons. The main sign up page show trending "tweets" which isn't shown on the PC version. This website revolves around typing, which makes it hard to write on androids because there is no keyboard.



Overall i think that the android version is more conveniant because the website is about updating where you are and what you are doing so having an andriod on you whilst travelling helps to keep you updated. The android version also has a good struture and a quicker way to look at all "tweets". The PC version is good though it holds more information and better website design. It's also a lot faster to find people to follow with better broadband but is still less convenient than and android.
